'Pisserendens Ølkælder': a low-ceilinged cellar bar in the Latin Quarter, dug in 1796, with 16 taps and 250-plus bottles from Danish microbreweries, some rarely seen elsewhere in the city. Records on the turntable. Open daily from 2pm (to 11pm Sunday to Tuesday, midnight Wednesday to Saturday).

  5. Amager Bryghus Taproom Nørreport

    Nørre Voldgade 27, 1358 København K

The city-centre bar of Amager Bryghus, one of Denmark's best-known microbreweries. Fifteen taps, ten of them usually Amager beers and the rest guests, plus a fridge of Amager specials. About 100 metres from Nørreport station. Open from 2pm Monday to Thursday and Sunday, and from noon Friday and Saturday (to 10pm Monday, midnight Tuesday to Thursday, 2am Friday and Saturday, 9pm Sunday).

Getting there: start in Knabrostræde, about 5 minutes' walk from Gammel Strand metro or 10 minutes from City Hall Square (Rådhuspladsen). The route finishes about 100 metres from Nørreport station (metro and S-train).

Peders to Amager Bryghus Taproom (about 800 m) is the longest leg: north through the Latin Quarter past the university and up to Nørre Voldgade.

Optional detours: Skaal (Kultorvet 11), a big Danish beer bar a few minutes from the last stop; or Ørsted Ølbar (Nørre Farimagsgade 13), a classic beer pub about 6 minutes from Peders.

Alcohol-free and pacing: ask at the bar for alcohol-free beers and soft drinks, and remember a half is always fine. Eat along the way, drink water between stops, and skip a stop whenever you like. More tips.
