Best time: Any day except Tuesday, when Outro Lado is closed. Start at Musa da Bica at 5pm, when it and Outro Lado open; Crafty Corner (from 11:30am) and Canil (from 1pm) are open all afternoon if you want an earlier start in reverse. Finish in Graça, which pours until 11pm (1am on Friday and Saturday). Opening hours change, so check each venue before you set off.
Calçada Salvador Correia de Sá 2A, 1200-399 Lisboa · Cais do Sodré (metro green line, trains, ferries), 5 min walk; Bica funicular
Musa's purple, music-themed city bar at the foot of the Bica funicular, with 15 taps on the wall pouring the Lisbon brewery's rock-pun beers (Red Zeppelin, Born in the IPA, Twist and Stout) plus seasonals, and a kitchen doing bar food. Open 5pm to 1am Monday to Thursday, 5pm to 2am Friday and Saturday, and 5pm to 11pm Sunday; the kitchen runs from 6pm.
Rua dos Douradores 133, 1100-213 Lisboa
Downtown taproom of the Canil brewery, which brews about 15 km from the bar. Around 30 taps mix a dozen or so house beers with Portuguese and international guests, and there's a pub-style menu of petiscos and burgers. Rock on the stereo, sport on the screens. Open 1pm to 1am Monday to Thursday, 1pm to 2am Friday and Saturday, and 1pm to midnight Sunday.
Beco do Arco Escuro 1, 1100-585 Lisboa
Hidden up an alley between the Baixa and Alfama, this is the beer geek's bar: about 15 taps and 300-plus bottles and cans, many of them imports you won't find elsewhere in Portugal, alongside local brewers such as Oitava Colina and Dois Corvos and its own Aguarela Beer Co. line. Natural wine, board games and pizza too. Open 5pm to 11pm Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and 5pm to 1am Friday and Saturday. Closed Tuesday.
Rua de São João da Praça 93-95, 1100-519 Lisboa · Tram 28 or bus 737, Sé
Craft beer bar in a stone-arched old building just below the Sé Cathedral, with 12 taps of Lisbon-area craft beer, regular brewery tap takeovers, boutique wines, its own Silvercoast cider and a full tapas menu. Opened in 2018 in Cais do Sodré and moved to Alfama in 2021. Open 11:30am to 12:30am Sunday to Thursday and 11:30am to 1am Friday and Saturday.
Rua Damasceno Monteiro 8A, 1170-112 Lisboa · Tram 28, Graça; Martim Moniz metro is about 15 min downhill
The original taproom of Oitava Colina, the brewery founded in Graça in 2015 and named for the neighbourhood's 'eighth hill'. Ten taps pour the house range, led by the much-praised Urraca Vendaval IPA, plus experimental batches and guests, with simple bar food and a terrace looking back over the city. Open daily from 4pm, until 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 1am Friday and Saturday (third-party listings; the brewery's site just says it's open every day).
Getting there: start beside the lower station of the Bica funicular, five minutes from Cais do Sodré. The route crosses the Baixa grid, slips behind the Casa dos Bicos to Outro Lado and the Sé, then climbs into Graça.
Musa da Bica to Canil (about 1.3 km) is flat, along the Rua do Arsenal or through Praça do Comércio. Crafty Corner to Graça (about 1.3 km) is the hard leg: steep lanes past the castle. Tram 28 from Sé to Graça, or a taxi, is an easy shortcut.
Outro Lado and Crafty Corner are about 250 metres apart, so they pair well even if you skip the rest.
Lisbon's pavements are polished limestone and very slippery when wet; wear shoes with grip.
