Best time: Monday to Saturday from about 5pm. Catraio and Cervejaria do Carmo are closed on Sunday. Gulden Draak and Catraio don't open until 5pm, so if you start earlier, begin at Carmo (from 4pm, or 2pm on Friday and Saturday) and take your time. Baobab closes at 11:30pm, so reach it by about 10pm and finish at Fábrica da Picaria. Opening hours change, so check each venue before you set off.
Praça de Carlos Alberto 124, 4050-159 Porto · Metro São Bento or Aliados (Line D), about 8-10 minutes on foot; the Clérigos tower is just round the corner
Wood-panelled craft beer house on Praça de Carlos Alberto, near the Carmo church, pouring Portuguese craft beer since 2016. It has more than 10 draught lines, rotating national and international beers, plus a big bottle list, toasties and cheese and charcuterie boards. Its own site lists Monday to Thursday 4pm to midnight, Friday and Saturday 2pm to 2am, and closed on Sunday.
Rua de José Falcão 82, 4050-315 Porto
Belgian beer house that opened on 9 February 2018: the first Gulden Draak bierhuis in Portugal and the second in the world, after Prague. It has 16 beers on draught and more than 200 bottles, mostly Belgian (Gulden Draak and its brewery's other beers) with some German, Dutch and Portuguese ones. Open Sunday to Thursday 5pm to midnight, and Friday and Saturday 5pm to 2am.
Rua de Cedofeita 256, 4050-174 Porto
Porto's first craft beer bar, opened on 31 January 2015 by Beatriz Afonso and Ricardo Queirós: a bottle shop and bar with a strong focus on Portuguese craft beer, rotating taps and a beer garden at the back as well as tables on pedestrianised Rua de Cedofeita. Open Monday to Thursday 5pm to 11:30pm, Friday and Saturday 5pm to 12:30am, and closed on Sunday.
Rua dos Mártires da Liberdade 108, 4000-483 Porto
City-centre bar, restaurant and terrace of Letra, the Minho craft brewery from Vila Verde. It opened on 17 February 2024 and has 22 taps of Letra and guest beers, with petiscos (Portuguese small plates) to share. Untappd lists Monday to Thursday 4pm to midnight and Friday to Sunday 1pm to midnight (Letra's own page doesn't publish hours).
Rua do Almada 377, 4000-303 Porto
Small, friendly craft beer bar on Rua do Almada, run by a Slovak couple since 2022. It has eight rotating taps and a fridge of more than 100 cans and bottles from Portugal and across Europe. Staff let you taste before you choose. Snacks are simple: marinated cheese, tinned sardines and cured meats. Google lists it open every day from 4pm to 11:30pm.
Rua da Picaria 72, 4050-477 Porto · Metro Aliados (Line D), about 5 minutes on foot
Calls itself Porto's first brewpub: beer is brewed on site and you can drink it straight from the fermentation tanks, with tables set among the brewing kit. There are about nine house taps (IPAs, stouts, red ales), and the food runs to francesinha, bifanas, cachorrinhos and burgers. Google lists Monday to Friday 5pm to midnight and Saturday and Sunday 1pm to midnight.
Getting there: start on Praça de Carlos Alberto, a few minutes from the Clérigos tower and about 10 minutes uphill from São Bento station. The route finishes on Rua da Picaria, 5 minutes from Avenida dos Aliados.
Gulden Draak to Catraio (about 500 m, along Rua de José Falcão and up Rua de Cedofeita) is the longest leg. The rest are 150-360 m, and Baobab and Fábrica da Picaria are almost next door to each other.
Gulden Draak is a Belgian beer house rather than an independent craft bar. Skip it if you only want Portuguese craft, and go straight from Carmo to Catraio (about 400 m).
Food: Fábrica da Picaria (francesinha, bifanas) and Letraria (petiscos) are the proper food stops. Carmo does toasties and boards, and Baobab does tins and cheese.
Rua de Cedofeita is pedestrianised and gentle. Rua do Almada and the streets round Carmo slope, but none of it is steep by Porto standards.
